school health services

We have a school nurse onsite for 35 hours per week. She is available for medical consultation and health education. Students 13 years of age and under require signed permission from their parent or caregiver to access the medical facilities. Appointments can be made through the office.

pastoral care

Wairoa College is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) School and has a 3-tiered pastoral care system:
•  Tier 1: Whānau Teacher
•  Tier 2: House Leader
•  Tier 3: Pastoral Care Leadership Team (includes Senior Leadership Team).
Upon enrolment students are assigned to a House and a horizontal Whānau Class within that House.  Students from the same family are put in the same House.  Whānau Teachers have an oversight of their students’ pastoral care and academic learning programme.
