YEARs 11-13

Year 11, 12, and 13 learning programmes are based around NCEA. With the guidance from Whānau Teachers, Deans and the Careers Team courses are selected to nurture and develop a student’s long-term career pathway.

All senior students select six courses. In Year 11 Mathematics, English, and Science are compulsory and in Year 12 and 13 all courses are optional.

Vocational pathways can be further developed through the Service Academy, Gateway, and STAR courses.
Choosing subjects to study should be based on three things:
  1. ABILITY - how good you are at subjects.
  2. INTEREST - which subjects you enjoy most.
  3. CAREER, OCCUPATION AND FUTURE STUDY INTENTIONS - If you know what career or tertiary course your want to follow, find out what subjects you need to enter these career areas or courses.
Remember the following:
  • Keep the course you choose a broad one - across a range of subjects and curriculum areas.
  • Make sure you continue studying English, Mathematics and Science for as long as you can.
  • Do NOT make a choice based on what your friends are doing or who the teacher is.
