Kapa haka continues to grow at Wairoa College with our wharenui, Te Aka Matua, playing a vital part in our students learning and understanding of our school items.
It is also important that our kapa haka group continue to perform local items from Te Wairoa so that these taonga are always kept alive.
Our annual district kapa haka festival for our junior school is a long-standing tradition within the region that is hosted by a different school each year.
We aim to continue to grow in strength and numbers in our senior school.

The senior kapa haka group had recently performed at the Matariki celebrations held at the community centre. The all girls group were thrilled with the performance in front of their whanau, friends and the community. The group had been practising since the beginning of term 2. Practises were held every Wednesday’s at school and wananga (live in practises) every weekend leading up to the Matariki performance. The purpose for building the kapa haka group this year was to prepare for the Hawkes Bay Secondary Schools kapa haka regionals next year.
